Stay up to date with the Community Based Health Insurance project (read more). (04-11-2010)

Despite political and economic improvements, the health status of Cambodian people is still among the poorest in the world. Out-of-pocket health costs are very high which affects the poverty level in a negative way. Together with Rabobank Foundation and the Eureko Achmea Foundation, HealthNet TPO designed the Community Based Health Insurance project. After years of research, assessments and preparation, the cooperative health insurance system was introduced and implemented in 2010.

As a result, 394 households (totalling 1894 people) were insured against health expenditures in September 2010. The amount of people that participate in the project is still growing. The project aims to have 250.000 members in the 5th year and expects to be independent in 3 to 5 years.

The weblog on the subject http://cbhipearaing.wordpress.com/ is written by our Cambodian partner organization RACHA. New information regarding developments of the project is communicated through this weblog which includes pictures and personal stories from participating families.

HealthNet TPO is still searching for additional funds to further execute the project in 2011. Possible funds can be found with the online competition of the Amgen Foundation: ‘Patients –Choices – Empowerment’. The project that wins this competition earns money to support the project. In order to win, individual votes for the various proposals will be counted. It is therefore important for HealthNet TPO get as many votes as possible. The voting will be from November 17 to December 1. Please visit the website and create a profile so you can vote for the project from the 17th of November!
