War Trauma Foundation / Intervention

The War Trauma Foundation (WTF) was founded on February 25 1997. WTF aims to strengthen psychosocial skills of local people and organizations in (post)conflict areas giving psychosocial support to children and adults affected by conflict and violence.

With (financial) support of Cordaid and HealthNet TPO, WTF publishes "Intervention, the International Journal of Mental Health, Psychosocial Work and Counseling in Areas of Armed Conflict". This is a multi-disciplinary journal published for:

  • Mental health workers, such as psychiatrists, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, art therapists, psychiatric nurses, psychosocial counselors and community workers.
  • Staff members of local or international non-governmental organizations developing mental health or psychosocial projects.
  • International experts in the field of mental health and psychosocial support within academic and international organizations.

Peter Ventevogel (technical advisor with HealthNet TPO) is chief editor, and Mark Jordans (researcher with HealthNet TPO) and Patrick Onyango (from our partner organization TPO Uganda) are involved in the International Editorial Advisory Board. General director of HealthNet TPO, Willem van de Put, is represented in the Editorial Council.

The Journal publishes articles that are relevant for professionals working in areas of armed conflict and other humanitarian emergencies, and for those working with refugees throughout the world. Intervention publishes articles based on empirical research, practical experience, and literature reviews. Published three times a year, Intervention is an essential tool in spreading the latest information gained from the practical experience of fieldworkers so their findings can inspire and support others carrying out similar interventions.
