
Research Programme for Improving Mental Health Care
As part of the research programme, HealthNet TPO participates in the PRIME consortium (PRogramme for Improving Mental health carE), lead by the University of Cape Town (South Africa). This research consortium is made up of a group of mental health experts and policy makers from around the world, whose aim is to generate world-class research evidence on the implementation and scaling up (expanding the coverage) of treatment programmes for priority mental health disorders, particularly in countries with little or no resources for mental health care. The priority mental health disorders include alcohol abuse, depression (including maternal depression) and psychosis. Since 1996, HealthNet TPO operates in Nepal in the field of psychosocial support and reproductive health. Local workers are trained to provide community based psychosocial services to those affected by political violence, refugees, women and girl survivors of human trafficking and torture victims. TPO Nepal worked together with the Center for Victims of Torture, and in 2005 started to work independently. Read more about HealthNet TPO’s history in Nepal
