January 13, 2012 - Via www.pifworld.com HealthNet TPO has been able to raise extra money for its comprehensive ‘Community Midwifery Programme’ in Afghanistan. The money will be used for an additional project supporting the training of midwives in the Nangarhar province.
January 6, 2012 – The community health insurance scheme that HealthNet TPO implements in Cambodia has been running for over a year now. Of the family members who enrolled in 2010, only 48% renewed their membership in 2011. At first sight it seems the project is not that successful. But after asking the families why exactly they dropped out, we might even be a bit proud.

December 14, 2011 - The end of the year is near, and as usual it is a busy time. The knowledge network is beginning to take shape, and we are convinced that it will help us keep track of each others initiatives and ideas. November 28, 2011 – Last week a special issue of Intervention, ‘the International Journal of Mental Health, Psychosocial Work and Counselling in Areas of Armed Conflict’ is published. November 25, 2011 – Nowhere is domestic violence as common as in Afghanistan. Continued conflict and lack of security have severely deteriorated the economic situation, disabling men the ability to fulfill their role as the breadwinner. Traditional ways to settle disputes are under pressure, and men seek other ways to enforce their authority. Girls are forced to marry at a very young age, which make them easy victims for the frustrations of both their husband and in-laws. Today, on “International Day for the Violence against Women”, HealthNet TPO publishes a report on violence against Afghan women.
November 19, 2011 - This weekend the daily newspaper ‘Trouw’ published a top-50 of Dutch charities. The 800 participating organizations were divided over three categories: International development aid, health care and welfare and culture. HealthNet TPO was ranked 17th in the category of international development aid.
November 18, 2011 – In December 2010 and January this year, the Batticaloa District in Sri Lanka was struck by catastrophic floods. In total over one million people were affected, of which over 500,000 people in Batticaloa. Many houses and livelihoods were destroyed, including several day-care centres for disabled children that are supported by HealthNet TPO. Our local partner MENCAFEP gives an update on the situation.
October 14, 2011 - HealthNet TPO is supporting both the new government to (re-) establish the health care system and is providing direct support to health facilities. As the State Ministry of Health’s General Director said “We are talking about construction here, not re-construction as we have been without adequate health service delivery for so long here in South Sudan”.
We work on rebuilding health care in areas disrupted by war, disasters and poverty. This process of 'rebuilding' starts with healthcare. In war- or calamity areas people face the immense task to rebuild their country in a devastated surrounding, whereas they suffer from poverty, diseases and the emotional impact of conflicts.
By using health as a goal and a means, we work together with local communities on the rehabiliation of people and the country.
