<description>September 21, 2011 - In Afghanistan, the density of health workers is only 0.75 per 1000 people. There is a serious shortage of educated health workers, especially in the remote areas. HealthNet TPO aims to deliver quality health services and contribute to the development of national systems, policies and strategies. In line with this approach, HealthNet TPO pioneered an innovative community health nursing education programme in the very remote and underserved province of Uruzgan, Afghanistan.</description>

<description>September 7, 2011 - The summers of 2010 saw Pakistan’s worst floods in 63 years. Nearly 20 million people, an eighth of the population, have significantly been affected. Facilities for health and education have been damaged irreparable and have been lost. HealthNet TPO helps the government to restore the Basic Health Facilities.</description>

<description>July 29, 2011 – Part of our core strategy is the development and improvement of interventions, knowledge and expertise by applying academic research. The paper “Mental health interventions for children in adversity: Pilot-testing a research strategy for treatment selection in low-income settings” describes a research strategy to make informed decisions for interventions, especially for low- and middle-income countries, as a response to the urgent need to scale-up mental health care for children globally.</description>

<description>July 15, 2011 – The new issue of Intervention, ‘the International Journal of Mental Health, Psychosocial Work and Counselling in Areas of Armed Conflict’ focuses on how to work in a genuinely participative manner with local stakeholders and not just for them. One of the articles is about the participative reintegration of war-effected young in which the described approach of Participatory Action Research is highly relevant for the settings where HealthNet TPO works, and has many similarities with the way HealthNet TPO works.</description>

This historic event took place under turbulent conditions: the border states of Abyei and Kordofan are disputed and fought; a large refugee flow has started; sexual violence against women is frightening increasing; and the southern army uses excessive force.</description>

Our approach of  insecticide treated bed nets (ITNs) with encouraging outcomes, has resulted in the adoption of ‘personal protection’ as one of the most effective malaria interventions in the country.</description>
