National Coordinator Sexual and Reproductive Health Cameroon

 

HealthNet is looking for  two local long-term coordinators for a sexual and reproductive health (SRH) program in Cameroon (Regions Adamaoua and Far north) and Buea (West and Southwest Region); 

About us: 

HealthNet is a Dutch aid agency that works on health care in areas disrupted by war or disasters. In these areas people are facing the immense task of rebuilding society while they suffer from poverty, diseases and the emotional consequences of conflict. We use ‘health’ as both a goal and means: the goal is to reach accessible health care for all. By working on that together with local communities we use ‘health’ as a means to bring people together and to restore mutual trust.  

Your project: 

The GIZ funded program to fight against maternal mortality in Cameroon aims to improve the care available to the population in the target regions through sexual and reproductive health services. The program includes the following three fields of action:

  1. Access to modern family planning methods and services;
  2. Integration of highly-trained midwives and obstetricians in the health care system;
  3. Support to the implementation of sexual, reproductive health and maternal and child health activities at the community level through the regional funds.

The project that you will support is primarily related to the first field of action, family planning.  The aim of the project is to improve the availability of quality health services, improving their accessibility and increase the demand for family planning services. This will be done by strengthening the skills of health professionals, providing target group-specific information on family planning (peer approach, local radio broadcasts, involvement of religious and traditional leaders, etc.) and promoting the use of family planning services. The implementation of the project will be mainly in four regions: Adamawa, Far North, West and East

This project is in the proposal phase and will be funded by GIZ. If awarded the anticipated project starting date is 1 April 2016. The duration of the project is 21 months.   

Your responsibilities and tasks:

To support the implementation of the project your main tasks are:

  • Close cooperation and coordination with the other project staff for the creation of synergies;
  • Dialogue with health workers and authorities and civil society actors with regard to improving the demand for family planning services;
  • Implementation of the technical activities to improve the demand for family planning services in the respective project regions;
  • Development and adaptation of training modules;
  • Organization of training for capacity strengthening of national structures on family planning and behavioral change;
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of the project;
  • Support for project reporting;
  • Support of onsite office management. 

You have/ are:   

  • Academic degree in social sciences or health sciences / communication or comparable education
  • 5 years experience in the field of Reproductive Health and Rights with focus on family planning, experience in the field of nutrition is an advantage;
  • Experience in the area of ​​health promotion for young people;
  • Competences in the field of organizational development,
  • Knowledge of the Cameroonian health system;
  • Very good French and English (particularly the stationed in Buea NFK) language skills in speaking and writing;
  • Previous experience with the operation of international organizations, bilateral development cooperation and possibly of German development cooperation are beneficial;
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English, knowledge of German is an advantage. 

We offer:

  • Initial contract duration of 12 months.
